Friends, welcome back—it’s lesson five time, and we’ve made our way to a twist on the sūtra path that became my gateway to a much improved life.
Maybe for you, too?
Let’s see.
A quick invitation with strong encouragement!
Those of you reading this are special beings. Karma and Patañjali might suggest that you carry these teachings from previous encounters, drawn to them now.
Plus, it’s not every human who engages proactively in spiritual formation. While we’re all in progress—all being formed by everything, all becoming someone—occasionally, we remember the power of beautiful, intentional sculpture. And, like all scripture, these sūtras offer tools for smooth edges.
To facilitate our journey, I’m starting The Caravan (click and scroll down to read more). We’ll meet on Zoom for six weeks to embody, celebrate, and share the wisdom we’re gathering.

A Return to the Text
In this series, we’re reading, chanting, and learning with Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra, wandering through the Samādhi Pāda (book of absorption). Today, we’re looking at four pivotal sūtras. They turn us from the variety of thoughts that disturb the mind toward an appreciation of our ability to manage these thoughts… and to quality of practice required to do so.
This is the point when our contribution to yoga expands and evolves. In these sūtras, we begin to choose our response to the mind’s restlessness. This is when the trail turns towards a strengthening union yourself, with life, with God— and all that entails.
